T.T.O.T.M.B.I.T.Y.B.T.C.F.A.T | Disjecta Center for Contemporary Art / Oregon Contemporary
This project indexes and aggregates all the portable objects mentioned in Marx and Engels’s Manifesto of the Communist Party. The items have been literalized and arranged as they occur in the text, providing a material, sensible experience of the manifesto. As fascism is on the rise across the world, the present moment seems particularly ripe for re-reading and re-imagining communistic futures. We're ever interested in our material realities influence our ability to imagine. What objects do we visual conjure when we read about them in a text? What kinds of objects do we live with? The objects in this installation were procured through capitalist and pre-capitalist means: some were borrowed, others bought, some inherited or fabricated, commissioned or gifted.
