Therapeutic Estrangement

Inspired by Franco Bifo Berardi's book The Soul at Work, this piece is about the intentional estrangement from labor that can be a liberatory form of non-attachment as opposed to the alienation described by Marxian theorist. We live in a society where we are expected to identify with work, with what we do, and yet work has changed dramatically. Steady single careers are more and more being replaced by itinerant and precarious jobs in the gig economy. This piece visualizes an estrangement from work, a reduction or a slow-down.
