This project indexes and aggregates all the portable objects mentioned in Marx and Engels’s Manifesto of the Communist Party. The things in this installation were acquired by both capitalist and pre-capitalist means (i.e. some were bought and some were made, others were expropriated, gifted, or borrowed). They have been literalized and arranged as they occur in the text, providing a material experience of the manifesto and an opportunity to imagine new relationships between objects. As fascism is on the rise in the world, the present moment seems particularly ripe for re-reading and re-imagining communistic futures. We've done other iterations of this project, one in Germany in 2016 and one via the website craigslist.com in 2019. We're currently working on a fourth iteration. Scroll down for more ------>
